Why Study History On Location?

Imagine learning about the brutality of Ancient Rome’s gladiator culture from the heart of the Colosseum, or running the same track as the first Olympic athletes in the Peloponnese in Greece. The MEI Roman and Greek Empires course takes students back in time and unlocks the stories of war and the birth of civilization that were to become the building blocks of our modern world. This program is designed for students who are interested in studying the mythic tales of the twin civilizations that laid the groundwork for our own, encouraging students to build confidence and invigorate their critical minds through oral presentations, creative collaboration, and essay writing.

Courses Offered

World History to the Fifteenth Century—Grade 11

This course investigates the history of humanity from earliest times to the fifteenth century. Students will use an overarching thematic approach to each period or society and relate it to the “big picture” of history. Students will focus on the development of Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome and the Medieval Age with an emphasis on social structures, gender roles, racial constructions, empires, and war. Students will apply historical inquiry, critical-thinking, and communication skills to present their conclusions on various themes explored throughout the program.
