Travel Overview
March  2018

Departure From Toronto (Day 1)

Our North American departure hub is Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. Five hours prior to our departure, a short meeting will be held at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel, Terminal 3, to distribute course packs and maps and to clarify travel procedures. All students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to the Sheraton Gateway Hotel. Students making alternate arrangements must contact MEI before November 30.

La Fortuna (Day 2–4)

Nestled in the shadow of the well known Arenal Volcano, La Fortuna offers students an explosive start to their journey. Zip lining over the forest canopy, they catch stunning views of Lake Arenal, then hiking to the emerald lagoon takes them into the heart of the extinct volcano, Cerro Chato. Just before they run out of steam, students enjoy some relaxation and time to reflect on the outskirts of town in one of many local hot springs.

Monteverde (Day 5–7)

Venturing into the cloud forest of Monteverde gives students a chance to slow their pace and explore the rich biodiversity found in Costa Rica’s rainforests. Here, students take up residence at the remote University of Georgia, Costa Rica campus, where they enjoy tours through local coffee plantations by day, sports-filled afternoons and evening hikes that reveal the nightly transformation of the jungle around them.

Manuel Antonio (Day 8–10)

More than the sum of its beaches, Manuel Antonio also has a renowned National Park, home to some of Costa Rica’s vibrant fauna; reptiles, monkeys and even sloths are found at arms reach. Back on the beach, students have the opportunity to try surfing or just play at the water’s edge. To bring the experience full circle, on their final day, students get one last adrenaline boost on an exhilarating white water rafting trip. In the evening, they close out their adventure perched high above the coastline—in a cliffside infinity pool—while enjoying each other’s company and one final, spectacular sunset.
